Essential oils are ideal for travel
Natural botanical oils make the perfect holiday companions as they are extremely versatile, compact, lightweight and easy to use! The fact they are so multifunctional means some oils such as tea tree, chamomile or lavender have been nicknamed a ‘mini first aid kit in a bottle! For example, a single essential oil such as lavender can provide a wide range of skin care and therapeutic properties that will help deal with many common holiday complaints such as jetlag, insect bites, insomnia, restlessness, headaches or sunburn. Carrier oils and flower waters also don’t take up much room in a suitcase either and since all Aqua Oleum products are available in under the 100ml air travel limit, they are easy to pop into a carry-on bag too!
My personal Summer travel kit:
This is a must to take on holiday and I never travel anywhere without a bottle of lavender with me. At present I’m using our high altitude lavender for it’s high linalool content which gives it a sweet, rounded fragrance. I like to put a few drops on my pillow to aid drifting off to sleep. Or if I am particularly restless, I will rub a few drops into the soles of my bed as it’s soothing scent can helps reset the body clock after travelling across time zones. A few drops of neat lavender can be used as a remedy for minor cuts & grazes, to treat insect bites and to heal acute patches of sunburn. For larger patches of reddish skin from sun exposure, I like to mix a few drops of lavender oil with Aloe Vera gel for its cooling affects.
This amazing oil acts as a first aid kit in a bottle! I always keep a bottle of tea tree with me when I go travelling. Renowned as a powerful anti-infectious, anti-viral and fungicidal remedy, tea tree oil can deal with most common skin problems, such as spots or infected wounds. It supports the immune systems overall if any common health issues occur while on holiday.
Another of my all time favourite oils, I love the reviving scent of rosemary and I particularly like our organic rosemary oil. This oil is the perfect ‘pick-me up’ to help recover from jetlag or after a late night out! When vaporised, it is very effective in warding off unwanted air-borne infections. For example, it is my go-to oil if I feel a cold or flu coming on and is very effective especially if the bug is caught early on.
I am a long term devotee of rose. At the moment while I’m on holiday, I have a 5% rose moroc oil blend with me because I can use it directly as a pulse-point perfume, or as a nourishing and moisturising facial oil in combination with Jojoba oil. Rose is of great benefit generally for mature complexions and also for sensitive skin that is very dry or reddish due to sun exposure. Rose is simply is one of the best skin care oils!
This lovely floral water is unique to Aqua Oleum. I use on a daily basis as part of my skin care routine as a light cleanser/toner as I have slightly oily complexion. It also makes a delightfully refreshing spritz in warm weather having an uplifting and revitalising effect. It is also helps boost and support the immune system and to help prevent the spread of viral air-borne infections. In some individuals it can even help deal with bouts of asthma or hay fever. In addition, I like to use it as a light deodorant and also as a purifying yoga mat spray whilst on the move.
I adore the scent of neroli or orange blossoms. There is something about the fresh, citrus uplifting fragrance that I have always found appealing. This flower water has a profoundly soothing quality yet at the same time it is uplifting and reviving and can also be used as a daily skin toner/cleanser. I like to use neroli water as a refreshing and cooling skincare spritz and as light perfume throughout the day in hot weather. I also like to keep a bottle with me in my bag whilst travelling.
I apply this floral water direct to any exposed skin to help keep mosquitos at bay – however, this needs to be repeated frequently to be effective! I also use it as a natural insecticidal & anti-infectious room spray, especially when travelling abroad. You can also use our citronella essential oil for a more concentrated hit to ward off bugs, or even add a few drops around the wick of any unscented candle for added effect.
I like this floral water as it has a more delicate scent than peppermint. It makes the ideal travel companion when used as a light deodorant to freshen up on the road and to help overcome any feelings of nausea or travel sickness. Pefect as a car freshner on road trips with children prone to sickness.
I don’t go anywhere without coconut oil! This light and versatile oil is very easily absorbed, so it leaves my skin non-greasy. I use it as a natural make-up remover, to moisturize and protect my skin from dehydration. Also as a massage/body oil base (combined with essential oils) since it has a long shelf life.
Structurally similar to the skin’s own sebum, this liquid wax is readily absorbed into the deepest dermal layers acting as the supreme natural moisturiser. I find that a few drops of jojoba oil massaged gently into my face on a daily basis helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also stimulates collagen production making it ideal for any dehydrated areas and sun damage.
