The Spring Equinox
The Spring Equinox in March brings with it the potential of new beginnings, warmer weather and days spent outdoors. This astronomical event marks the official beginning of Spring, when the sun crosses the equator, resulting in equal periods of day and night: it’s a moment of celestial balance and harmony.
As the days get longer, lighter, and brighter, we also receive a boost of the feel-good hormone dopamine, so we naturally feel more alert and experience a heightened sense of wellbeing. As always when the seasons change, the requirements of our bodies also change – this has long been recognised by the ancient Ayurvedic tradition.
It’s the time to leave the cold, dark and gloomy days of winter behind and create a fresh, revitalising environment at home. Mother’s Day, as well as International Woman’s Day are also celebrated in March and it’s no surprise that this coincides with the time when flowers start to bloom and all of nature wakes up.

Re-energise your home with essential oils
Spring is the ideal time to embrace the vitality of nature and to bring a fresh new energy into your home. Citrus oils, like lemon, grapefruit, lime, bergamot, mandarin, sweet orange and cedrat will all create a fresh, uplifting atmosphere when used in room vaporisers. Floral aromas such as geranium, rose, neroli, ylang ylang and lavender also compliment the mood of Springtime and bring a sense of warmth and enjoyment indoors alongside potent stress-relieving benefits.

DIY Aromatherapy Room Fragrances
Natural aromatics have been used for thousands of years for their natural purifying properties and to help cleanse the air of unwanted odours and airborne pathogens. Certain oils are also known for their ability to alleviate allergy symptoms, making it easier to enjoy the Spring season. It’s fun to experiment with making your own bespoke blends to make fragrances that suit your personal taste. Always remember to start with a small batch to ensure you like the scent before making larger quantities and make sure you record the process as you go.
Our ‘Blending Notebook’ or my ‘Home Aromatherapy’ Video Tutorial Series can also help give you guidance – for example, citrus oils blend well with minty oils for a refreshing and invigorating effect or with floral oils such as lavender for a clean, soothing aroma. Remember to store your blends in dark, glass bottles to preserve the oils’ integrity and extend their shelf life, plus don’t forget to label and date each batch.
