An evergreen, spiny tree with leathery, dark green aromatic leaves. It bears very fragrant white flowers that are followed by juicy, red-tinted orange fruit. The fruits are smaller and darker than than those of the sweet orange. Petitgrain oil, from the leaf of the bitter orange is also known as Citrus Bigaradia. Neroli oil is produced from the flowers and bitter orange oil from the peel of the fruit of the same tree.
